APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE FAAP ARTISTIC RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Foreign artists—as well as Brazilian artists living outside the state of São Paulo —are eligible to take part in the selection process for the second half of 2020

To serve as a temporary site for visual artists who want to research and develop projects in São Paulo is the main objective of the Residência Artística FAAP, maintained by Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in Edifício Lutetia, a historic building located at Praça do Patriarca, in downtown São Paulo. Both foreign artists and Brazilian artists living outside the state of São Paulo are eligible to take part in the selection process. Application is open through January 31st for the program scheduled for the second half of 2020.

The Residência Artística FAAP offers time and space for research, investigation and development of projects, actions and connections. This is what makes it sought-after by artists from all over the world. More than 400 artists from different continents have shared this experience since 2005, when the program began, still as an artistic residency experiment.

To house the artists, the building has ten large studios with kitchen, bedroom and private bathroom. The space also has additional service areas, such as a laundry room, as well as a living room and a multi-purpose, common-use area for different actions and activities. The building also houses an extension of FAAP’s Brazilian Art Museum (MAB), MAB Centro, which periodically holds contemporary art exhibitions showcasing the production of the students recently graduated in FAAP’s Visual Arts courses.

How to apply

Those interested in participating in the selection process must submit the project they intend to develop in São Paulo, in addition to the required documentation: two letters of recommendation, résumé, one 3x4 photograph, portfolio and filled out application form available at http://bit.ly/ResidênciaArtisticaFAAP. Any additional information the candidates deem necessary for their application may also be included.

During the residency period, artists must take part in the activities called Open Studio, as well as in the Seminários de Invetigações Contemporâneas (Contemporary Investigations Seminars) I and II, promoted by FAAP’s Visual Arts courses. They will also be encouraged to present an interaction proposal for all of FAAP’s publics—students, teachers, employees and the broader community—and which may involve such activities as classes, lectures and workshops, among others.

Participants of the FAAP’s artistic residency Program can stay a minimum of two months and a maximum of five months; the participation period must be indicated at the time of application. The period chosen will be confirmed by the program’s coordinators during the selection process.

More information on the required documentation for the selection process is available at www.faap.br/residenciaartistica. For further details, call +55 11 3101-1776, write to resartisfaap.info@faap.br or reach us through Skype at residencia.artistica.faap.

Cultural effervescence

In addition to the complete infrastructure offered to residents, the location is another strength in the FAAP’s artistic residency Program. Praça do Patriarca is located nearby museums, galleries and cultural institutions, and provides access to the main spots in the downtown area, in addition to being the stage for many artistic expressions. Residents also have the support of the extensive facilities of FAAP’s college campus, with labs, studios, classrooms and workshops.
